Job Description

FOR THOSE WITHOUT THE REQUISITE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE, BUT WITH STRONG MOTIVATION AND DESIRE TO LEARN AND ACHIEVE EXCELLENCE, AN INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY IS AVAILABLE (NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED) This internship is an exceptional opportunity for the motivated individual who seeks to gain exposure, skills, experience, insight, and mentorship in the field of immigration law, especially as it relates to the defense of undocumented persons (the majority of clients in this office are from Mexico and Central America) This internship is also suitable for those who wish to apply to law school and gain valuable insight and experience in assisting clients from disadvantaged, oppressed, and/or marginalized backgrounds. Responsibilities:

  • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda on various immigration law topics
  • Assist in preparing immigration applications and supporting documents under attorney supervision
  • Compile country condition reports and other evidence for immigration, including humanitarian cases
  • Participate in client interviews and draft declarations
  • Attend and observe immigration court proceedings and USCIS interviews, when applicable
  • Perform administrative tasks such as organizing case files and managing documentation
  • Schedule: Minimum commitment of 16 hours per week, with flexibility around academic schedules
  • Supervision: Interns will receive direct supervision and mentorship from experienced immigration attorneys
  • Flexibility in work schedule is also available, including part-time hours
Qualifications:
  • Such experience can enhance and distinguish one's application by highlighting a desire and dedication to utilize one's legal education to advocate for and support vulnerable communities, such as immigrants seeking safety and security in the United States
  • Strong legal research and writing skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities
